Overview

Jordan, an Arab nation on the east bank of the Jordan River, is known for its ancient monuments, natural reserves, and seaside resorts. It is also home to the famed archaeological site of Petra: the Nabatean capital dating to around 300 B.C.E. Set in a narrow valley with tombs, temples and monuments carved into the pink sandstone cliffs, Petra is considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the world.

This trip will give you the opportunity to emerge through the ever-changing landscape of Jordan’s southern region. You will explore Petra hiking through some most iconic trails, hike through Wadi Rum and reaching Jordan Highest summit Umm Ad Dami, and interact with the Bedouins, learning more details about their culture and the most thrilling canyoning adventure in Wadi Mujib. Some shopping time in downtown Amman and the aromas of the Jordanian cuisine complement this itinerary, turning it into one of the most fun and adventurous trips you can have in just 4 days.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Amman – Wadi rum (L, D)

Note: Arrival in Amman must be before 09:00am or please arrive one night before tour date (overnight not included), we can arrange pickup from your hotel. Upon arrival at Amman airport or your hotel in Amman at 9:00 am our representative will greet you. You will then be transferred to Wadi rum (a drive of approximately 3-4 hours), Upon arrival in Wadi Rum, you will be guided to a remote campsite where you will lunch on traditional BBQ prepared by a local Bedouin family that still follows the Bedouin lifestyle and will be keen to share their culture and traditions with you. After lunch, you relax a bit and will ride the camels through the canyons of Wadi rum. Then you will reach the camp where you will rest for the night. In the evening, you will taste the traditional Zarb – a delicious Bedouin treat – and you will sleep under the stars. Dinner & Overnight at campsite. Accommodation: Magic campsite or similar with all modern facilities- Bed, electricity, modern bathrooms, running water.

Day 2

Hiking Um Al Dami: The highest peak in Jordan (1,854 m) (B, L, D)

Once again, you will start the day early, driving to Umm Al Dami through Jeep, the starting point of today’s adventure. At 7 am, you will begin your hike to the summit of Jordan’s highest peak: Um Al Dami, at an elevation of 1,854 m. The walk is of moderate difficulty; the path starts from the foot of the mountain, and it takes 2-3 hours to reach the top. At the summit, you will enjoy panoramic views of the vast rocky Jordanian mountains up to northern Saudi Arabia. You will even spot a border crossing far below. Note: This hike contains a few sections where you may need to use your hands for balance to ascend and/or descend. Hiking duration: approx. 4-5 hours, elevation gain of 1854 meters Light lunch will be offered at noon and you will be transferred by jeeps back to the camp. Dinner & Overnight at camp. Accommodation: Magic campsite or similar with all modern facilities- Bed, electricity, modern bathrooms, running water.

Day 3

Wadi Rum – Petra – Hiking hidden back trails of Petra (B, L, D)

After an early breakfast, you will head with the cars to Petra (a drive of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes). After reaching Petra, you start exploring the ancient trails of Petra – UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Totaling a distance of 12.4 km, you will be hiking through the historical site of Petra through the back route. This gives you the opportunity to discover Petra’s rich history and culture in a truly authentic way keeping us away from the crowds. The hike starts from an area called Little Petra and follows the ancient Nabatean path; you pass through narrow goat trails, stony paths and make your way to the Ad Deir or ‘Monastery’ admiring the beauty of the carved sandstones, and then proceed your way down approximately 900 steps and a short walk to reach the world-famous Treasury before continuing our way back up to the visitor center. Lunch box provided. Physical Activity: 6-8 hours depending on route we take. By evening, check-in to your hotel/camp in Wadi Musa and relax. Dinner & overnight at the hotel. Accommodation: 4 star Petra Hotel (Petra moon Hotel or Seven Wonders campsite or similar)

Day 4

Exploring Petra Treasury – Amman – Departure (B)

After breakfast at the hotel, you will checkout from the hotel and will embark on a signature walk through this famous, UNESCO Heritage site. You will pass by the Treasury, and you will explore the architectural marvels created on the rocks, and the influences of various cultures like the Roman, the Egyptian, and, later on, the Islamic one. Snacks and water will be provided during this 2-3 hours hiking. After lunch, will drive towards Downtown Amman. Depending on your flight time, you will have a few hours for shopping, resting, or exploring the city on your own. Later you will head to the airport for your international flight back to home. Note: Recommended departure flights to be after 6pm.
